Аuthorship and equity participation

All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Where there are others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project, they should be acknowledged or listed as contributors.

The corresponding author should ensure that all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included on the paper, and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication.

According to the ICMJE authorship is based on the following 4 criteria:

  • substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work;
  • drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content;
  • final approval of the version to be published;
  • agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

The authors should meet the above conditions. The collection of data or scientific supervision, patient care, commenting, partial participation in the writing or editing of articles are not directly related to the authorship. The order of authors in the list should be determined on the basis of joint decision. Authorship for research work should accurately reflect the contributions of individuals in its implementation and description. Researchers should ensure that only those persons who meet the criteria for authorship (have made a significant contribution to the work) are considered the authors, and that researchers deserving authorship are not excluded from the list. All authors should give consent for inclusion in the list of authors and approve the edited version of the article.

If authors ask to exclude or add an author after sending or publication of the article, the editor may contact any of them to clarify the reason for inclusion or exclusion of the author. The corrected author list should be re-signed by all authors, including the written consent of the included or excluded author.

When changes in the list of the authors takes place, the Editorial Board follows COPE’s recomendations:

Acknowledgments

All participants who do not fulfill authorship criteria should be named in the Acknowledgement section. Appreciation should be expressed to those who provide technical assistance, or to the department head. Financial and actual support should be also acknowledged.

Corresponding author

The corresponding author should act as a point of contact between the editor and the other authors and should keep co-authors informed and involve them in major decisions about the publication (e.g. responding to reviewers’ comments). In the cover letter it is necessary to include the corresponding author’s phone number and email. His name should be asterisked on the title page.

Authors should respond to reviewers’ comments in a professional and timely manner.
