Abstract
Pericardial cyst are rare congenital formations that occur in the middle mediastinum. Most of them are accidentally detected on chest X-rays. The occurrence of a pericardial cyst in children is quite rare. It must be differentiated from other cystic formations of the mediastinum. Echocardiography (transthoracic or transesophageal) and chest CT with contrast are the methods of choice for diagnosis in patients with pericardial cysts. Here we describe the case of a 5-month-old boy whose diagnosis of a pericardial cyst was verified only after CT-examination. The child underwent resection of the formation followed by pathohistological examination. We got a good result of surgical treatment and complete regression of symptoms after 6 months.
