Abstract
A successful one-stage correction of aortic arch interruption and aortopulmonary septal defect (APD) in a low birthweight newborn is described. A low birthweight infant is a newborn infant with a body weight of less than 2500 g as defined by WHO (2012). Low birthweight in-fants are 2 times more likely to have congenital heart disease (CHD). Low body weight is one of the risk factors for infant mortality among newborn infants with congenital heart disease. We present a clinical case of successful one-stage surgical correction of a rare complex ductus-associated heart disease: aortic arch interruption and APD with obliterating patent ductus arteriosus in a low birthweight neonate. This work demonstrates the high efficacy of the magnetic resonance imaging technique, which aids in the selection of an optimal method for CHD treatment.
