Abstract
Comparative clinicopathologic study of great vessels and heart for coarctation of aorta (CA) was performed. 511 case reports and pathology records of the deceased infants of the first year of life on the basis of pathologic anatomy department of Research Institute of Obstetrix and Pediatry during 2000-2008 were studied. It was shown that CA is associated with multiple congenital defects of cardiovascular system in 32.3% observations i.e. is a manifestation of systemic dysplasia of connective tissue. Investigation of various aortic portions associated with CA revealed predominance of destructive changes in the shape of cystic medionecrosis, saccular aneurysms in the ascending portion. Meanwhile, fibrostenotic and adaptation processes develop in coarctation area. These findings allowed us to define more precisely remodeling dynamics in different parts of aorta as well as optimize policy of treatment and follow-up.
