Abstract
Mitral valve failure (MV) is one of the frequent causes of reoperations after radical correction of atrioventricular
canal (AVC). The frequency of reoperations for MV failure depends on its grade of evidence at the moment
of intervention and on the length of defect. It is stated in the paper that the main reason of MV failure is dilatation
of its fibrous ring associated with marked changes of leaflets and chorda-papillar apparatus and as a consequence
reconstructive surgery of the valve is impossible. The reasons of MV replacement after AVC radical
correction were degenerative changes of valvular and subvalvular apparatus progressive in good time as well
as infectious endocarditis. MV replacement reoperations is an efficient method of surgical complications residuary
or emersed following AVC radical correction and associated with good hemodynamic results.
