Abstract
Objective. To study anatomy of mitral valve in infants.
Morphometric study of structural components of left ventricular valve apparatus is based on 30 observations, commonly
of a developed heart. They were obtained after autopsy of infants, whose deaths were not connected with cardiovascular
diseases. The age of infants ranged from 1 day to 36 months (mean age was 12.4±3.8 months), 70% (21)
of infants were under the age of one year.
Results of the study showed that according to the growth and development of a child, we can see homogeneous diameter,
perimeter and area of fibrous ring in mitral valve. The valve system in infants is completely competent and has
significant quantity of tissue in leaflets in case of mitral annular dilatation, and processes of demuscularization of
mitral valve chordal system in infants are not completed. This process continues according to the growth and development
of a child.
