Abstract
Maude Abbott (1969–1940) is one of the first female doctors in Canada, who went from assistant curator to outstanding pathologist
and pediatric cardiologist of the twentieth century. From 1901 to 1936, she collected and systematized a huge clinical and pathological
materials about all known congenital cardiac disease (CCD). The top of her scientific work was “Atlas of Congenital Cardiac
Disease” (1936), which laid the foundations of the clinical pathology of CCD and influenced the development and implementation of
the first operations in CCD (Gross R., Hubbard J., 1938; Blalock A., Taussig H., Thomas V., 1944). The name of Maude Abbott can
be put on a par with the greatest women of the twentieth century – M. Skłodowska, S. Kovalevskaya, Mother Teresa, Princess Diana
and etc., who's life and activity have become an example for thousands of women around the world.
