Abstract
Thyroid hormones have vital functions, taking part in the metabolic processes of the whole organism. The spectrum of thyroid hormones biological effects is wide, and normal level is necessary for the all systems functioning . In case of thyroid dysfunction, pathological changes have polysystemic nature. It can be assumed that the operation with cardiopulmonary bypass, leading to the syndrome of generalized systemic-inflammatory response and such adverse factors as heart failure and hypoxemia, can induce severe and persistent depression of circulating thyroid hormones not only in adults but also in children. In this regard, there is a need for a detailed study of thyroid hormones level changes in children with congenital heart defects after cardiopulmonary bypass surgery with an assessment of secondary hypothyroidism effect on the postoperative period.
