Abstract
Primary cardiac tumors are rare in pediatric practice. Fibroma is a benign tumor of the heart, accounting for 12 to 16% of primary cardiac tumors in children. We report a rare clinical case of a successful correction of left ventricular outflow tract obstruction caused by fibroma of the interventricular septum at the child 2 year 10 months. Echocardiography results showed volumetric mass measuring 16 × 9 mm in the area of the interventricular septum and prolapsing through the valve into the aorta with moderate obstruction of the blood flow. Resection of tumor was performed with cardiopulmonary bypass, hypothermia and cardioplegia. Echocardiography results showed a good hemodynamic correction effect at discharge: there is no obstruction in the outflow tract of the left ventricle. According to the results of histological examination the tumor was identified as a papillary fibroma.
