Abstract
Objective – evaluate the quality of life of children after correction aortic coarctation using two methods: ascending sliding and aortoplasty using pulmonary homograft.
Material and methods. In the presented pilot, one-center, prospective randomized study, the quality of life of patients after correction aortic coarctation in newborns was evaluated using two methods: the ascending sliding (n = 30) and aortoplasty using pulmonary homograft (n = 30). The total sample size was 60 patients.
Results. Treatment scores, concerns about treatment, cognitive problems, and heart problems were significantly higher in the ascending sliding group, while sociability and symptoms, and perceptions of appearance did not differ between groups.
Conclusion. The quality of life of children does not suffer in the long term after correction of aortic coarctation. Cognitive and communication problems in both groups may be associated with long-term complications.
