Abstract
Unicuspid aortic valve (UAV) occurs in 0.02% of individuals in the general population, but is a common cause of aortic valve surgery in adolescents or young adults. Aortic valve replacement has become the “gold standard” of surgical treatment of aortic stenosis. Aortic valve reconstruction has now become an attractive alternative to prosthetics. One of the methods of UAV plastic surgery is bicuspidalization, which consists in excising part of the fused valves, creating a neocommissure and a symmetrical bicuspid aortic valve. We present a case of successful bicuspidalization of the UAV in a 17-year-old patient, with medium-term results, paying attention to the safety of the procedure and the effect of flap restoration on the hemodynamic parameters of the aortic valve, as well as an overview of current work on the application of this technique.
