Abstract
Objective. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in children with supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias.
Material and methods. The study included 135 children (age 7–17 years) who underwent RFA for tachyarrhythmias at the Almazov National Medical Research Center in 2019–2020. Electrocardiography, 24-hour electrocardiography (ECG) monitoring, echocardiography, and endocardial electrophysiological examination were performed to diagnose rhythm and control disorders after RFA. Surgical intervention was performed under the control of fluoroscopy, as well as using the 3D navigation mapping system CARTO. The efficiency of radiofrequency ablation was assessed separately in the early and late postoperative periods.
Results. The effectiveness of radiofrequency ablation in patients with Wolf–Parkinson–White (WPW) syndrome/phenomenon was 90.24% in the early and 83.8% in the late postoperative periods; in patients with ventricular tachycardia – 80 and 80%, respectively; in patients with atrioventricular nodal reciprocal tachycardia (AVNRT) 92.86% in the early postoperative period, there were no recurrence of tachycardia in the late postoperative period. The percentage of postoperative complications was 1.48%.
Conclusion. Radiofrequency ablation is an effective and safe treatment for tachyarrhythmias in children and adolescents. The frequency of recurrence of tachyarrhythmias depends on the nature of the tachyarrhythmia, the anatomical location of the arrhythmia focus and the type of ablation catheter.
