Abstract
The article describes a case of transcatheter closure of a recanalized aortopulmonary window (APW) in a 13-year-old patient with severe pulmonary hypertension caused by residual shunting after ligation. APW is a rare congenital heart defect (CHD), with an incidence of 0.2% to 0.6%, that may be complicated by recurrent shunting after surgical ligation. However, despite its significant clinical relevance, data on the frequency of such complications remain unknown. Given the high surgical risk, the patient underwent transcatheter endovascular closure using an occluder, which successfully eliminated the shunt and achieved a favorable hemodynamic outcome. This case highlights the efficacy of the transcatheter approach in patients at high risk for open surgery.
