Abstract
Congenital heart defects with systemic blood flow obstruction are often accompanied by a severe clinical condition, especially in the neonatal period. One of such defects is critical aortic valve stenosis. Performing radical correction of the defect in a newborn child is associated with high risks of life-threatening complications. In some cases, the operation of choice is hemodynamic correction to stabilize the clinical condition in the form of narrowing of the pulmonary artery branches and stenting of the patent ductus arteriosus.
We present a clinical case of successful staged surgical treatment of a child with critical aortic stenosis in combination with hypoplasia of the aortic arch and multiple defects of the interventricular septum. On the 9th day of life, bilateral narrowing and stenting of the patent ductus arteriosus were performed. At the age of 5 months, the child successfully underwent radical correction of the defect: Bentall–De Bono operation with prosthetics of the aortic arch and plastic surgery of the interventricular septal defect.
