Abstract
Reasons for necessity of valve replacement in a long-term period after correction of congenital septal defects were revealed and immediate results of replacement were analyzed. From 1988 to 2008 in Bakoulev SCCVS, RAMS, 56 heart valve replacements in patients who had undergone previous correction of congenital septal defects were performed in the department of pediatric surgery for senior pediatric patients with congenital heart defects. All patients underwent single-valve replacement of aortic (n = 31), tricuspid (n = 31) and mitral valve (n = 8) replacement. Heart valve replacement after correction of septal defects is associated with favorable immediate results. Correct technique of the primary operation and prevention of infective endocarditis may significantly reduce the necessity of heart valve replacement, which is the repeated operation in such category of patients.
