Abstract
Downs syndrome is one of the most common chromosomal syndromes combined with congenital anomaly of cardiovascular
system. According to the literature, Downs syndrome is combined with ventricular septum defect in
25 - 30%.
Such patients have a high grade of pulmonary hypertension by the end of the first year of life and present
the irreversible morphological changes in pulmonary vessels associated with 9% mortality in non-operated
patients.
Case of successful treatment in a 10-year child with ventricular septum defect and high pulmonary hypertension is
presented.
Results of surgical treatment improve significantly at this stage of development of diagnostic methods, preparation
to surgery, improvement of anaesthetic support and methods of surgical correction. Complex assessment of pulmonary
circuit, data analysis of diagnostics including preoperative pulmonary biopsy, allow to resolve the issue
on operability of the patient and to choose the method for the correction.
