Abstract
The ventricular septal defect is one of the prevailing congenital heart diseases. Large ventricular septal defects with the significant arteriovenousshunt
are as a rule corrected in childhood. At the same time there are considerable number of patients with the smallventricular
septal defectwho survived upto the adulthood. The review has listed the literature data related to details of natural development
of ventricular septal defect, spectrum of complications developed in adult patients, methods and results of operative treatment.
