Abstract
The clinical case has been reported as for the successful surgical repair of ventricular and atrial septal defects, patent ductusarteriosus that
was performed on the cardiopulmonary bypass, hypothermia and cardioplegia in a two months old, low birth weight (1650 g), premature
infant with the associated extracardiac pathology who was admitted into hospital in critical condition.
The surgical correction was successful but the postoperative period was complicated by the hypertensive crisis, polyorgan insufficiency,
recurrent atelectasis, pneumonia. Intensive therapy within 68 days allowed coping with complications. At the examination 6 months after
the operation the normalization of volumes of the assimilated food and considerable weight gain (4.6 kg at the age of 8 months) were noted
as well as the sinus rhythm and tendency to normalization of volumes of heart chambers. No clinical manifestation of circulation insufficiency
on the background of digoxin intake has occurred.
The present clinical case has demonstrated the feasibility of performance of radical correction of the complex of congenital heart diseases in
low birth weight premature infants being in critical condition and with the concurrent extracardiac pathology as well as their subsequent
successful nursing.
