Abstract
Introduction. Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is potentially fatal complication in the neonates with congenital heart disease (CHD).
Objective. To determine influence on outcomes and risk factors for necrotizing enterocolitis in neonates with congenital heart disease.
Material and methods. From 2011 to 2014, 52 neonates with congenital heart disease developed necrotizing enterocolitis after cardiac
surgery. All cardiac operations were without cardiopulmonary bypass. The control group included 50 neonates with corresponding
diagnoses who did not develop necrotizing enterocolitis after cardiac surgery.
Results. Mortality rate in neonates with necrotizing enterocolitis was significantly higher than in the control group (36,5 vs 12%).
Statistically significant differences between the groups were calculated for cardiopulmonary resuscitation within 48 hours after cardiac
surgery, multiply organ failure, severity of illness prior to cardiac surgery.
Conclusion. Development of advanced NEC after cardiac surgery in neonates with CНD is associated with increased mortality. The
main risk factors for NEC in neonates with CHD are hemodynamic instability and multiply organ failure.
