Abstract

The tricuspid valve (TC) in humans has been described by A. Vesalius (1543). Congenital insufficiency of TK was observed by G.B. Morgagni (1761) and J.V.L. Riecke (1831). However, it was described in most detail by W. Ebstein (1866). The term “Ebstein disease” was introduced in 1927 by A. Arnstein, and the term “Ebstein anomaly” (AE) in 1950 was introduced by H. Taussig et al. The first description of the congenital anomaly of the development of TC W. Ebstein's type in Russia was presented by P.A. liashevich (1925). The authors of the article first introduced into scientific usage a description of the defect of TC by W. Ebstein (1866) in Russian and an original description of this anomaly by P.A. Eliashevich (1925). A modern description of AE anatomy is presented (M.V. Gordeeva, E.S. Dorokhina). Comparison of observations of W. Ebstein and P.A. Eliashevich with our servations showed that the description of the Russian author (one of the first in the world) is the closest to the modern description of the anatomy of AE. The authors of the article believe that in Russian-language writings AE should be referred to as the “Ebstein–Eliashevich anomaly”.
