Abstract
This review is devoted to one of the critical conditions in newborns and children in the first year of life – aortic valve stenosis (AVS). Currently, two main directions are used to correct this congenital heart disease (CHD), these are open reconstructions and endovascular interventions. Analysis of the literature data indicates suboptimal long-term results and, as a consequence, the search for new and improvement of the already proposed methods. In most works, there are descriptions of the results of correction of this CHD, mainly in young and older children. There are few works devoted to the results of such interventions in children of the younger age group. Despite the fact that this problem has existed throughout the history of cardiac surgery, its relevance only increases over time. This is due to the need for urgent resuscitation or surgical interventions in newborns and infants. The publication provides an overview of the issues related to the correction of this critical CHD, including the main open reconstructions and endovascular techniques. Comparisons of these two main directions are also presented. It is important to remember that if AVS is not detected in time and the appropriate assistance is not provided, the risk of developing serious complications, up to and including death, is very high.
