Abstract
An isolated double atrial septum is a rare anatomical feature of the human heart, represented by two parallel portions with the formation of an interseptal space. The clinical and prognostic significance of the double septum remains to be resolved, however, presumably it can be thromboembolism, causing the development of ischemic strokes and transient ischemic attacks, and also cause difficulties in intracardiac manipulations. In a clinical observation, echocardiographic signs of a double interatrial septum were assessed in an asymptomatic 13-year-old patient. The characteristics of the right and left septum, structural changes depending on the phases of the cardiac cycle have been studied in detail. The principles of differential diagnosis with other variants of the structure of the septum, based on embryological data, are considered. A brief overview of the relevant literature is also provided.
