Material and methods. We performed 19 primary plastic surgery operations for bicuspid aortic valve stenosis in newborns and children of the first year of life in the Cardiac Surgery Department of CRCH from 2015 to 2017. All patients had a bicuspid structure of the aortic valve. The aortic valve structure were the first type in 53% and second type in 47% respectively, in accordance with the classification of Schaefer BM and colleagues (2008). The children's ages ranged from 2 days to 10 months (median 29 days). We had 15 (78.9%) newborns of the total number of patients. We performed an open valve reconstruction in 18 case with fusions elimination and valve planar resection. Our team created a tricuspid structure of the aortic valve in one case. There were three patients (15.7%) who underwent sparing balloon valvuloplasty prior to aortic valve reconstruction, 5 (26.3%) children received an infusion of Vasaprostan before surgery.
Results. There was no early and long-term postoperative mortality. Three patients underwent repeated interventions due to the progression of stenosis. The number of patients who do not require repeated surgery in the long term were 16 (84.2%), 12 (75%) patients had the first degree of stenosis, and 4 (25%) patients – the second.
Conclusion. Open reconstruction of the aortic valve can be successfully performed in newborns and children of the first year of life, including those in critical condition. Most patients do not need repeated surgical intervention during to 5 years observation period.
