Abstract
Recent advances in fields of medicine and pharmacology provides intensivists with tools to treat critically ill patients ant to search new ways to optimize intensive therapy and new solutions. Vasopressin (AVP) is the first synthetized peptic hormones used for treatment of diabetes insipidus and gastrointestinal bleeding for last fifty years. Oliver and Shaffer discovered it in 1895 when they found that hypophysis extract infused to laboratory animals leads to elevation of arterial blood pressure, and Farini and Felden described its antidiuretic property in treatment of diabetes insipidus. Vincent du Vigneaud was the first to synthetize vasopressin in 1954, but its positive effect on vasoplegic syndrome was described only in 1997. Since that time number of scientific researchers had been held aimed to clarify its effectiveness, side effects, minimal safe dosages and therapy initiation criteria.
